Trip to the ER

So a few weeks back the Caughran family went to Gary Texas (Near Carthage Tx . . . still don't know where that is? an hour northeast of Nacogdoches . . . still? 3-4 hours northeast of Houston on 59 . . . just google it)

Anyways we were going up there for Lisa's nephew's birthday party. I was looking forward to the trip, but my 70.3 Ironman is coming up and I had a scheduled 2 hour run, 3 hour ride, and 30 minute swim to do. I decided to have us go up the night before the party and bring my training gear so I could do my training Saturday morning before the party.

The weekend of the party arrived and we finally got to our hotel in Carthage. I took my bike off the back of the car and took it inside. I later ran out to the car to get something and when I closed the back hatch the rack hit me in the head. A guy was walking by and I was embarrassed. The next morning at 6am I am up and ready to go run. Unfortunately it is now cold and raining. I asked the clerk which way to go run and she instead told me where not to go because it was a bad neighborhood. I took off and came back soaked and tired 2 hours later.

We got everyone packed up and ready to go to Lisa's sister's. I then went for a 2 hour ride by their house before Lisa got me to tell me we needed to get ready for the party.

Fast forward a few hours and we are at the party and Mimi is taking Colin to the potty. She asked Lisa to get a new pair of undies since he had a slight accident. She heads to the car and the next thing I know Lisa's sister is coming in telling us that something is wrong with Lisa. We all run out to see what was wrong. She is out cold on the ground and twitching (like a seizure) we get her up and she comes to. She doesn't remember what happened, but because of my experience the night before, I figured she had knocked herself out when she slammed the back hatch and brought the bike rack down on her head. (Her niece later confirmed this).

Once Lisa was stable and fine, I was doing some phone internet research and decided we should go to the ER.

Conversation with Lisa after the ER:

Lisa "My cat's okay.I took your advice. They scanned my cat, I can play !"
Me" They scanned your cat... ? You got a CAT scan."

Well it didn't really go like that although it did in Varsity Blues. Regardless they found that there was no new damage.

MRI

So today was the big day that Nolan got to go get his first MRI (7 months old). MRI's are nothing to the Caughran Family. Daddy Colin has had his head MRI'd twice and Little Colin had two before his back surgery (at 3 months and 11 months). I don't think Lisa has had one, but she did have a CAT Scan a few weeks back (that would be a good post . . . stay tuned)

But this is Nolan's first (and hopefully last) MRI. It is a little more scary for little kids since they have to put them to sleep and there are always risks with that. Nolan has a tiny fat pad bump on the side of his head that looks/looked like a mosquito bite. They wanted to MRI it to confirm that it was nothing to be worried about. Good news is that the doc called within hours and said it is nothing!

Here is a pic of Nolan before they sedated him.

Lisa always hates it when her kiddos need to get an IV because they always have a hard time getting it in correctly. This time was no different. Luckily Lisa didn't slug the nurse.

Daddy Colin got to sleep in this morning for the first time in forever because he got to play mister mom and take care of little Colin before taking him to school.

Poopin in the Potty

This might be a little late, but Little Colin is officially potty trained. A few weeks back, Lisa found 3 days of no plans and decided to do a 3 day potty training boot camp. She set up shop in the kitchen (Tile floors) with Colin in big boy undies and proceeded spend the next 3 days potty training. And it seems to have worked. It took more than 3 days, but he hasn't been in a diaper since and uses the potty (with the occasional accident).

Since Mommy was teaching him, he pees sitting down and now I am teaching him to pee standing up. He seems to like it better although he needs a stool since he isn't tall enough.

The other day pee'd standing up and then he told Lisa "I want to poop standing". After Lisa stopped laughing, she explained to him that everyone poops sitting down.

Lisa has also created a monster. To help him with pooping on the potty, she would try to make it fun and they would laugh when he tooted on the potty. So now he thinks it is hilarious and laughs out of control when he toots. I had to write this down so that in future years when he thinks it is funny to toot, I have written evidence that I was not the one to teach it to him, but his mother did. Sorry future daughter-in-law.

The Boys

Just some photos of the boys from recent trips/days.

Happy Nolan

Colin at Rodeo day at school. Lisa said he was happy but liked the tough cowboy look.

We are going to the Bahamas this summer so Nolan needs a passport. Lisa had to take the picture for the passport photo guy.

The boys were excited to ride together in the cart at the local HEB. Nolan loves to do things with Colin. Colin is happier with Nolan riding with him, but he still won't share the wheels when they are in the race car cart.

The family took the private jet to Paris Texas to visit the Capt family for birthdays.

Nolan was ready for the day.
